This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information the Becoming a Founder website collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. If anything is unclear, email [email protected].
Who we are
Becoming a Founder is a podcast based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. “We” and “us” in this policy mean the Becoming a Founder team. You can reach us at [email protected].
What we collect and why
We only collect what you type into our forms, plus basic, anonymous visit statistics.
- Get notified form — your name, email address and, if you choose, your WhatsApp number. We use these to tell you when new episodes are out and to share news about the show and our events. We send a confirmation email first; you’re only added once you click the link in it.
- Guest application — your name, company, role, website or LinkedIn, sector, years operating, a short description of your story, email, phone/WhatsApp and how you heard about us. We use these only to consider you as a guest and to contact you about it.
- Partner enquiry — your name, organisation, role, email, phone (optional) and your message. We use these to reply to your enquiry.
- Contact form — your name, email, subject and message. We use these to reply to you.
- Visit statistics — which pages are viewed, which site sent you here, your device type and your approximate location (country or city). This is counted on our own website without cookies and without storing your IP address, so it can’t be used to identify you.
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Where it’s kept
Form entries and our mailing list are stored in our own website’s database, on a server we rent from RackNerd in a data centre in New York, United States. Visits to the site pass through Cloudflare, which protects the site and makes it load faster. The emails we send — confirmations, replies and newsletters — go out through Brevo, and when you submit a form a copy is emailed to our team inbox (Gmail). These providers handle your information only to run their service for us. Access is limited to the people who run the show.
How long we keep it
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
- Guest applications, partner enquiries and contact messages: up to 24 months, then deleted — sooner if you ask.
Cookies and embedded content
Our website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. If you’re logged in as a site editor, WordPress sets the cookies it needs for that.
Episode pages may include players from other services (for example YouTube or our podcast host). When you press play, those services may set their own cookies and collect data under their own privacy policies.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it; or
- stop sending you emails (every email also has an unsubscribe link).
To make a request, email [email protected] from the address you used, and tell us what you’d like. We’ll reply within 30 days.
We aim to follow Cameroon’s data protection rules and good international practice on privacy.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
